Jai Prakash Narayan All India Institute of Medical Sciences (JPNAIIMS), Patna is one of the six AIIMS established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yajana (PMSSY) with the aim of correcting the regional imbalance in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country and attaining self sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education. It is an autonomous institute under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The first undergraduate batch of 50 student comprising 37 boys and 13 girls started from 24th September 2012 at the upcoming Phulwarisharif campus. The classes are being held at the AIIMS Residential Complex, located 2 km away from the upcoming main campus. The student were selected on the basis of All India Pre -Medical Test conducted by AIIMS in 2012. The departments are :
- Community Medicine
The AIIMS campus is coming up in an area of 134 acres near Walmi in Phulwarisharif. It will comprise of the residential buildings and the hospital. The hospital is expected to start functioning by the end of 2013. However, some facilities like Out Patient Department (OPD), IPD, Trauma centre, Obstetrics & gynaecology, Surgery, Orthopaedics and Operation Theatre will become operational in August. The hospital is planned to have 960 beds overall when fully functional.
The institute is set to double the intake of student into its MBBS course to 100 from academic year 2013-14 from 50 last year. The classes will commence from August. The institute has so far recruited 85 faculty members out of which 60 have already joined. The 200-bed hospital is expected to be completed by January 2014
