Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) has opened a picnic area in Diara, on the other side of the Ganges. Diara is the piece of land that has got created in the middle of the river Ganges as a result of deposition of sands over the decades. Its a huge piece of land. The picnic area is situated by the beautiful sand beach of the Ganges and wonderful view of Patna can be seen from there.
The picnic spot was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi in December 2011. It is equipped with food court and cabanas for those who would like to spend a day at the beach. It is situated in area of 24000 square feet, having three thatched cabanas, six sitting area, and a food court offering snacks. BSTDC already operate floating restaurant, M V Ganga Vihar from Gandhi Ghat. This picnic spot is accessible from the same Ghat. The picnic area is opened between 2 PM to 5 PM.
This is great initiative and BSTDC hopes to attract lot of people. On a beautiful day, the experience at this beach can be wonderful. The horizon of Patna City is beautifully visible from here.
A word of advise : Though this was opened with much fun fare, nothing much has been heard after that. Its better to inquire from the tourism department or at the Gandhi Ghat about the current facilities and services, before making any plan. Though it seems to be great place, but without proper facility, its advisable not to venture at such place.
How to reach :
The picnic area is accessible from Gandhi Ghat, Behind NIT, Patna. One can take autos directly Gandhi Maidan to Ashok Rajpath and reach NIT. It is easily accessible by autos.
