Patliputra Sports Complex


Patliputra Sports Complex, also known as Kankarbagh Sports Complex is a newly constructed sports complex in Patna. It was inaugurated in 2012. The first Women World Cup Kabaddi Championship was held here in its inaugural year, in which 16 countries had participated. The Sports Complex is situated in Kankarbagh area.

The Sport Complex is a modern state-of-the-art complex, having facilities for both indoor and outdoor games. It is spread over 16- acre. It has 400-meter athlete track, swimming pool and accommodation facilities for 200 sportsperson. A gymnasium is also on cards. The outdoor stadium capacity is 40000 whereas indoor stadium capacity is 3500. The approximate total cost accrued in building the sports complex has been estimated at Rs 20 Crore. The Complex is maintained by Bihar State Sports Authority and Directorate of Youth Welfare & Sports of Bihar. Various sports event keeps on happening here.

There are several projects proposed to make it more sports friendly. It includes the installation of flood lights in the outdoor stadium so that day-night matches could be played here in future.  The work is expected to get completed by mid 2014. The work on the construction on the synthetic athletics track is also on progress and is expected to get completed by April 2014. The sports authority is also taking no chance on security measures. Fire fighting system is being installed in the stadium. The construction of 3 Lakh liter underground tank in the south-western corner is also underway.
