After many years, Patna seems to have get such a raw deal in the railways budget 2013-14 that was presented yesterday in the Parliament. Not only the popular demands of introducing fast trains to the metros were turned down, but also the local passengers woes were ignored. There was expectation that super fast trains like Duronto would be provided for the route like Patna-Bangalore, Patna-Mumbai and Patna-Delhi where there is heavy rush for tickets. The new train announcement which caters to Patna includes :
- Pataliputra - Bangalore weekly express
- Rajendra Nagar Terminal - New Tinsukia weekly express
- Patna-Sasaram Intercity express via Arrah
There is also proposal for an Executive Lounge at the Patna Junction for catering to the high end passengers. Patna is one of the seven city selected for the purpose.
With these few announcements, certainly the hopes of people has not met. It is to be noted that though there has not been 'direct' increase in the passenger's fares, yet there has been substantial increase in 'indirect' fares though increase in reservation charge, super-fast charge, tatkal charge, cancellation charges across all categories.
