Patna Ghats to be renovated with World Bank assistance


World Bank has approved a fund of Rs. 189 crore for the development of Patna ghats from Collectariat ghat to Gai ghat, towards the end of 2012. The DPR of the project has been prepared by Sen and Lal Consultant. The four ghats - Collectariat ghat, Mahendru ghat, Kali ghat and Patna College ghat will undergo development. There is proposal of cemented benches, canteen and small parks on these ghats. Socio-cultural center will be established at Collectariat ghat and Bhadra ghat, which will attract the citizen. Urban Development and Housing department has also proposal of constructing a footpath from Collectariat ghat to Gai ghat, to be completed in two phases. The user-paid footpath will be wide enough and people can enjoy walking by the river Ganga. Vehicle will be prohibited on the footpath.

Once completed, the project will give a new look to the city ghats, which lay in dilapidated condition for most part of the year.
