Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) has initiated the process for the construction of a big statue of the Lord Buddha at Ghora Katora in Rajgir. The statue will be 70-feet in height and 50-feet in width and the statue will be in Dharma-Chakra-Pravarta posture. BSTDC has selected Rang Vikalp Society for the purpose. The statue will be ready by mid 2015. The statue will be placed in the centre of the lake at Ghora Katora. The statue will be placed on pedestal on a raised platform which will be 22-feet high and 95-feet wide, having fence of 4-feet around it. The height of the pedestal will be 30-feet and will have four panels on it depicting important incident related to the life of Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha had spent a considerable part of his life in Rajgir and in around areas. BSTDC expects to develop the area around lake for more tourists to visit it. The expected cost of the initiative is Rs 17.37 Crore. Rajgir is a famous Buddhist destination in the State, and it attracts a large number of domestic and foreign visitors. Ghora Katora is famous for the dam and the State government has decided to develop the area into an eco-tourism destination. BSTDC has flouted the tender in the first quarter of 2013.
