on 27 April 2015.

The devastating earthquake that rocked Nepal two days back and caused widespread damages of life and property in Nepal as well as in India has kept the people on high alert with several tremors occurring during the past 48 hours. The 7.9 magnitude earthquake had epicenter near Pokhra in Nepal which has claimed more than 4000 lives in Nepal till now and more than 50 in Bihar. Though no casualty has been reported from Patna, yet fear has gripped the city. Some buildings and other structures have developed minor cracks due to the earthquake. With 6-7 tremors of light intensity being felt during past two days, the people are not ready to take any chances. People are spending their nights in open spaces like Gandhi Maidan and Eco Park. The parks in the City has been kept open for night as well. Schools remained closed for two days. The rumour about the earthquake has another cascading effect during the past two days. Rumors about some buildings getting tilted on one side kept the people perplexed. There are unconfirmed news that one of the pillar of Mahatma Gandhi Setu and Rajendra Nagar Flyover has developed cracks. The administration is all geared up to tackle any emergency arising out of frequent tremors.

It is very important to keep certain things in mind during and after an earthquake :

  • Do not use lift while moving out
  • If you are outside, move away from building and utility wires
  • Once in the open, stay there till vibrations stop
  • Do not use candles, matches or open flames
  • Do not believe in rumors and do not spread it either
