St. Joseph's (Patna) School bus overturned

In a sad and tragic event, 20 girls belonging to St. Joseph Convent High School, Jethuli (near Patna) were injured when the school bus carrying girls rolled down into a mud filled nullah (canal) on NH - 30 near Chotti Pahari in Agamkuan locality yesterday. The bus was carrying 32 students and 10 teachers and was returning from the school to Patna in the second half of the day when the event occurred around 3:15 PM. The bus had reportedly been said to be lost control while giving way to a heavy vehicle on the traffic congested road. The injured girls, teachers and driver were rushed to NMCH (Nalanda Medical College Hospital) where the doctors treated them for minor injuries. All the injured were said to be out of danger, though they were traumatized. The bus slipped from the road, twice overturned and felled in the nullah and stood in normal straight position. The ill-fated bus was carrying girls of Alamganj, Tripoloa and Mahendru areas.

It was the quick help of the nearby locals, who jumped into the nullah and evacuated the girls and teachers that the incident did not resulted into any major casualty. The miraculous escape was the talk of the town by evening yesterday. The parents of the students who did not reach home on time rushed to the hospital on learning about the incident. There were anxious moments at the incident site and in the hospitals. The incident has cast shadow over the safety of school buses and on the expertise of the drivers, with many parents being worried about their children's safety after the incident. There are thousands of student who use school buses to reach their schools which are often located at the outskirt of the city. The conditions of school-buses and the expertise of drivers need to be checked periodically to avoid occurrence of such incidents.

Saras Fair 2013 in Gandhi Maidan

The 14-day long Saras Mela got a start on 29th November at the historic Gandhi Maidan. It will conclude on 12th December. The fair showcases the handicraft items and other items made by the self help groups and self employed persons (Swarozgaris) from a number of states. A total of 300 stalls including 20 of food-items are spread throughout the fair. Artisans from 18 states have came here to put up there stalls. A number of household items, including the carpets, showpieces, flower pots etc. are being sold in the fair. Cultural shows and  other events are also being organized on a regular basis. The fair is open from 10 AM in the morning to 9 PM in the night. It is being organized by the Department of Rural Development, Government of Bihar in association of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. The fair is organized to give exposure to rural artisans and entrepreneurs at the national level. It provides a direct platform for the sales of rural products and opportunity to link itself with the emerging trends of the market. In 2013-14, a total of 22 saras fairs are scheduled in various parts of the country.

Tenant verification made mandatory

The Patna Police has now initiated the process of keeping a record of the tenants, after a series of criminal incidents pointed towards this lapse. Taking a clue from the larger cities, where the verification of tenants is mandatory and their records are maintained in the local police stations, the city police has launched the scheme. The landlords now need to give the details of their tenants in a prescribed format to the nearest police station. The form will contain the details of the tenants along with his photograph and his thumb impression and signature. Considering the fact that a large number of student are staying in Patna for study or preparing for exams, the form has several fields related to the student details. The form is available in Hindi and English. The police has given a week time to the landlords to furnish the details, failing at which a legal proceeding will be initiated against them.
